That's right, we now recycle plastic and electronics! With the help of a grant from St. Louis Jefferson Solid Waste Management District in Missouri, we are setting up to collect and process plastic waste.

In Colorado, we are also setting up for plastics and will be working on the processing equipment in the next year. For now, we are taking plastic and recycling it 'as is'.

There is a cost for recycling electronics like computers, printers, monitors, etc. so be sure to call or let your salesperson know you'd like to recycle electronics. We can take a maximum of 5 pieces of equipment at a time, or we can arrange a larger pick up for an additional charge.

With these additions to our program, we can now recycle about anything that comes out of your office. Together with our full line of supplies, we handle all the 'ins and outs' your office needs.

Please call us today for more information or to get set up to collect plastic.

As always, thanks for your support and for your concern for the Planet!!

There is so much 'green' happening these days my head is spinning. In the last two days there have been articles in the New York Times about Silicon Valley transforming solar power and 'Ecomoms' working hard to lessen their carbon footprint.

These are heady times. I hope the slowing economy doesn't derail this movement. In my view, we can't afford to keep going down the same path.

As for Pedro's, we are working with realty folks to find a LEED certified home since our lease is up next year. There are a lot of options on the drawing board as many developers and landowners are thinking 'green'.

We are also bringing in a line of way cool items that will be on our website soon. We will have 'to go' containers made from corn and potato starch. There will also be utensils and biodegradable and compostable plates and bowls.

We are also working to put together our line of way cool outerwear, like t-shirts, hats, vests, etc. sporting the famous Pedro's logo.

All these items will be coming with our new web storefront. We have set up several customers on the new site and we're getting rave reviews. If you are a current customer and want to be moved over to the new storefront, drop me an email to pedro@pedrosplanet.com or call us any time.

Thanks, as always, for your support and your business!

Happy New Year! If you missed our front page you didn't see me on the cover of St. Louis Magazine this month. What an honor to be recognized in this way. It's quite humbling and I'm grateful for the recognition, but it's not really mine.

The reality is that Pedro's Planet is run by a group of nearly twenty dedicated and able people in St. Louis and Denver. We are supported by an incredible network of suppliers and have a large base of the greatest customers on the Planet.

All these fine people make it happen every day. From our 'delivery specialists' (as Chuck likes to call them) who come into our warehouse as early as 4:00 am to sort out orders and routes for the day, to our customer service people who go extra miles every day to make it happen for our customers who call, fax and email us every day for their supplies and recycling needs. Finally, to our sales people who are out taking care of our customers and pounding the streets looking for new business each day.

So I dedicate this honor to those who make all this happen. To our Customers, your concern for the Planet is inspiration that keeps us going each day. To everyone working at Pedro's Planet, from the 4:00 am sorting to the end of processing orders at the end of each day, I thank you and honor you.

As we start a new year it's a good time to count our blessings and examine our lives. Let's take a moment to think about what we can do to help make the Planet a better place and honor those that make it so.

Each day it seems there is more evidence of a warmer Planet. Glaciers retreating, droughts in places like the southeast, more violent storms are all possible signs of a warming planet.

My take on the issue is from a little different perspective. It makes sense to use less fossil fuel for many reasons beside carbon emissions. If predictions of the calamities of global warming have even a grain of truth then we should do all we can to lessen our carbon footprint. But we should also consider that our health is affected by the air we breathe. We should consider that our children and future generations will need energy and we should consider that our consumption habits are fanning the flames of resentment around the world.

With all this in mind, we have a great opportunity to make the Planet a better place. Using less and developing renewable and clean sources of energy will have positive impacts on both the environment and the human condition.

Here's to a healthy and greener 2008. As always, thank you for your support this year and for your concern for our Planet!
